Gourmet Kitchen Cutlery Needs
Every kitchen needs a cutlery
set to function properly. While there are many
different types of cutlery, the most important
piece in any set is the chef’s knife.
While you can get a good chef’s knife to around
$50, you will be even happier if you are willing
to spend $75.
To protect your new investment from damage you
will need to purchase a cutting board. You will
find cutting boards in a wide variety of styles,
and produced using several different materials.
Here are some things to keep in mind when
purchasing a cutting board. They come in two
basic styles, one sits on your countertop while
the other sits on your sink. Since there are
several different sizes you will need to
consider the size of your kitchen, the size of
your sink, and practical ways to store your
cutting board. The two most common materials for
cutting boards are plastic and wood. Wood
cutting boards will get marked up quickly, while
plastic ones are more likely to dull your blades
quickly. No matter what type of cutting board
you purchase you are going to eventually need a
knife sharpener.
There are, of course, a host of other tools you
can add to your gourmet kitchen, including a
carving knife, fillet knife, cleavers, paring
knifes, tongs, thermometers, wisks, and ladles,
just to name a few. You will also need to think
about mixing bowls and cookware.
You will have many more options when it comes to
buying cookware. You can save yourself a lot of
money by purchasing your chef’s pans as a set.
Of course if you don’t want an entire set, you
will definitely need to purchase a sauté pan.
Sauté pans have a long handle and lid, with the
pan having a wide flat bottom and straight
sides. While they come in a variety of sizes,
you will get most use from a medium sized pan.
Another great pan to have in your kitchen is a
soup pot. It is much more versatile than the
name implies, as it can be used for soups,
pasta, stew, and meats. Also known as a stock
pot, your soup pot will be one of the most
versatile pieces in your kitchen. You will have
a variety of choices when it comes to the size
of your soup pot.
Once you have the basic tools you may want to
consider equipping your kitchen with some luxury
items, such as waffle irons, hand blenders, deep
fryers, food processors, steamers, and espresso
machines. Your next step could be to extend your
gourmet kitchen into the great outdoors with
either a gas or charcoal grill. While equipping
a gourmet kitchen is a substantial investment,
you don’t need to purchase everything at one
time. It is also helpful to remember that you
don’t need every gadget on the market, just
focus on those tools you are likely to really
use.
