Try Out Knives Before You Buy
A quality kitchen knife can be
quite expensive so before purchasing one you
should test out several varieties and styles
first.
Each cook has their own unique style and
requirements when it comes to cutlery. While it
is important to research which brands of cutlery
may be the best match for your needs, the only
way to know for sure is to try the different
brands out yourself. One example of why this is
important is different hand sizes. What feels
comfortable in one hand will be unmanageable in
another. Your own hand size and strength will
play a part in determining which knife will work
best for you.
You can see the importance of trying out knives
prior to buying in this example. There was a
couple that went shopping for knives at an
upscale kitchenware store in San Francisco. They
ultimately chose to purchase a cutlery set
produced by Henckels. The husband particularly
liked the weight and strength of the chef’s
knife when compared to a lighter Japanese
manufacturer, Global. They also compared the
Henckels knives to another western producer,
Wusthof, which still not have the weight that
the husband liked in the Henckels line. What did
the wife like best about the Henckels cutlery?
The price.
Your best bet is to choose cutlery based upon
what is comfortable in your hand. Would the wife
have been happier with the smaller handle of the
Global knives? We will never know! To get the
best results out of your cutlery set it should
be a good match for hand size and personal
preferences.
